What should you do when someone dies?
The death of a loved one is a daunting and challenging time. It is perfectly natural to feel upset and not know what to do at this time. At J Edwards Independent Funeral Directors, we are here to help you cope with this loss by offering our support and making the funeral arrangements as easy as possible.
If the death occurs at home and was expected, you should firstly inform the person’s doctor and a funeral director. The doctor will usually visit to confirm the death, and to give permission for the funeral director to take the person to a safe place. Our funeral home has a secure facility to look after your loved one. Sometimes the doctor can give permission without the need for a visit. In this case, the doctor will issue a death certificate at a later time. As you will need this to register the death, please keep it safe.
If the death happened in a hospital or residential home, the staff will usually contact a doctor, and arrange for the death certificate to be issued. Residential homes are usually aware of their residents’ preferred funeral director, and they can make the call on your behalf. Hospitals however usually request that the family contact a funeral director themselves. We are only a phone call or visit away and are available 24 hours a day.
We provide our funeral services to clients across Suffolk and the surrounding areas.
